Dragonfruit

Dragonfruit is the common name for the edible fruit of a tropical cactus named Hylocereus undatus. The fruit contains betalains which give the fruit its purple-red color. Fruits of H. undatus have purple peel and purple flesh. The closely variety H. polyrhizus has purple peel and white flesh. There are couple of yellow varieties available which have a similar appearance but yellow peel and white flesh. These belong to the genus Selinecereus and are found in Mexico.
